Walking from Crowden via Blackhill with Bob and Brian, weather forecast fine and sunny (Wrong). Found an object from an aircraft or dropped from an aircraft.
(If anyone knows what it is please leave a message)
Brian John & Bob at not so Blackhill
Bob & Brian holding up the object by it's parachute cord
I have been informed by RAF Museum Cosford 6th October, that it is in fact a Type 1945 Non-Directional Sonobuoy. These were dropped by parachute into the sea with a hydrophone suspended at a depth of about 35 feet to listen for passing submarines. It is not connected with the near by Meteors crash site, as Meteors were never used for coastal reconnaissance work.
Operational Field Trials of GPS Equipped Sonobouys are taking place (should'nt loose these?)

Out with Rachel, our route is Crowden, Laddow Rocks, Chew Reservoir, 541 Trig, Hollin Clough, Lads Leap and Crowden.
It was quite heavy going walking in the snow and finding a way through, avoiding 4 and 5 foot snow drifts in some cloughs and grough sides. A bright sunny winters day what a pleasant change.
Spot the Mountain Hare. The only one we saw all day
