" Via Ferrata" in the Dolomites
Back To Home Page
This was our camp site and base for a week at Camping Colfosco Corvara in Italy. I had never climbed in my life before, so before our departure, I recieved a crash course in climbing from Gary Bentley of Gbcimbing helped by Dave Woodacre and Andy McVey.
This included climbing and scrambling in Wales, Idwal Slabs and Glyder Fach. Stanage Edge, Laddow Rocks, Wharncliffe Crags and last but not least "The Foundry" climbing wall in Sheffield.
"The photos are from a mixture provided by all members of the team."
Via Ferrata means "Iron Way" and were originally built to aid the movement of alpine military units during The First World War.   They are a range of protected routes, comprised of fixed cables, ladders and gorge spanning bridges. Routes are graded according to difficulty and seriousness. 1A,B,C through to 5A,B,C. Our first climb started at grade 3C
